Each year Hildene's staff and volunteers welcome thousands of guests daily to the Lincoln home, grounds and walking trails. We can accommodate scheduled guided tours, self-guided tours, group tours and school groups. A new ramp funded in part by the Vermont Arts Council and the National Endowment for the Arts is located at the east end of the main house providing easier accessibility to the first floor for our physically challenged guests. You should allow approximately 3 to 4 hours for your visit.
Your visit includes a brief video presentation in the Welcome Center, a self-guided tour of Robert and Mary Lincoln's home, listening to the 1,000-pipe Aeolian organ and access to the Hoyt Formal Garden. You'll also want to visit the Cutting and Kitchen Gardens, the Observatory, Pullman car Sunbeam, Hildene Farm, and the exhibits.
1903 Pullman Palace Car Sunbeam Open to the Public
This is a site on the Vermont African American Heritage Trail and includes an exhibit, Many Voices, highlighting the paradox of Pullman Porters and the subsequent rise of the Black middle class.
Tours for the Visually Impaired
We also offer personal tours for the visually impaired by appointment. Please contact us in advance to schedule at 802 367-7961 or by email.
Grounds, Walking Trails and Farm
Don't forget to visit the gardens, grounds, walking trails and farm, all easy walks from the Welcome Center. You are welcome to bring a picnic to enjoy on the grounds but we ask that for your and our animal's safety you do not take food to the farm.
