Day Camps 2021

Explore, Experiment & Discover!

We look forward to the return of campers, and to the joy and excitement they bring to Hildene! Our highest priority is the health and well-being of our campers and staff. Camps will be structured a little differently this season due to COVID-19. They will be limited in size to 8 campers and will be held as much as possible outside. All state and federal guidelines for COVID-19 will be followed. Detailed information regarding safety protocols during camp will be provided to families at the time of confirmation. In the event that camp is cancelled due to COVID, camp fees will be fully refunded. For additional registration information, please see "Registration Details."

Camp-in-a-Box!, our 2020 Alternative returns for SUMMER 2021: Hildene’s educators created an alternative for the 2020 summer camp cycle, literally putting camp in a box. Designed for children entering first through sixth grade, the Camp-in-a-Box themes included Plants and Pollinators, Ponds and Wetlands, Forests and Farm Day. Favorite investigations and activities were chosen, and all the necessary equipment and any special materials needed were included in the box, so children were prepared to explore themes in depth, with their caregivers. Camp-in-a-Box provided all the tools needed to have fun, learn together, and peak a child’s curiosity, while discovering the simple wonders of the natural world! For more info on the Camp-in-a-Box alternative, see below. With thanks to the Vermont Humanities Council and the National Endowment for the Humanities, who provided support for our Camp-in-a-Box program.

Hildene has moved its bee yard so our guests may observe and learn about the honey bee as a powerhouse pollinator.  The team will construct a rail fence around the bee yard to keep our visitors at a safe distance while still enjoying the comings and goings of the bees. During the construction of this project, the Youth Corps team will develop basic carpentry skills under the guidance of Hildene’s Building Superintendent, TJ Lillie. While mornings will focus on the honey bee operation, the afternoons will be spent learning about and exploring the ecology of Hildene, helping with chores at the goat dairy and Dene farm, researching nonprofit organizations, enjoying crafts and playing games. This is a two-week summer program for 6 highly motivated young people.
