Welcome Center
Your visit to Hildene begins when you enter the Oscar V. Johnson Welcome Center. The building itself is the carriage barn, one of many original structures built by the Lincoln Family in the early 1900s. You will notice certain elements — horse stalls, hay feeds, grain chutes and pocket doors - that tell the story about the original function of space. This building is also home to The Museum Store at Hildene, an artful display of carefully curated selections of products.
Your admission includes a brief video presentation in the Welcome Center, and a self-guided tour of Robert and Mary Lincoln’s home and Formal Garden. Also included are the Goat Dairy, Dene Farm, Cutting and Kitchen Gardens, Pullman car Sunbeam, Robert’s Observatory, and 12 miles of walking trails. Your admission also includes three exhibits: The American Ideal, A Lincoln Legacy: Remembering Peggy Lincoln Beckwith, and Many Voices.
